Ulsan offers a wide range of sporting facilities for people to get active. The newest addition to that list is a rollerskating venue that has just opened in Sungnamdong or old downtown. The company named "Roll-ja" offers a fun alternative choice for those who want to either get active or just have fun with some friends.
Having not roller skated since childhood I admit I was a little nervous about trying it out, but luckily similar to riding a bike it came back to me quite quickly. Once you enter, the staff who speak very good English, explained to us we pay a fixed fee and then we can have an unlimited time in the rollerskating area. They gave us our roller skates and we tied ourselves up ready to have an either deeply embarrassing or very fun time.
Although we struggled a bit at first, we soon got the hang of it and there wasn't any pressure if you were a beginner. After you got the used to it you began to feel quite relaxed as you glided around the room. There was a surprising mix of people in the rollerskating area from families to teenagers to couples, the place a very welcoming and inclusive feel. Everyone seemed to be having fun...
The only slight negative with the rollerskating rink is it's a bit on the small side so after a certain amount of time if you don't really like rollerskating you might begin to feel a little bored. Also the rink just runs in a loop with no crazy bends or ramps, so your experience will be quite similar throughout the night. If your more of an experienced roller skater I can see how you might get bored of this after a while.
Personally though I had a lot of fun the music is very upbeat and its quite entertaining just rollerskating up and down. Most people there also seemed to really enjoy it, a line of friends all held on to each others backs and skated together, a mother even put her child in a toy car and pushed him around the rink much to the delight of the child. The rollerskating rink is probably not something your going to do every week, but as a fun way to spend an afternoon its definitely worth it.
How to get to Ulsans rollerskating rink?
Although located in old downtown, actually finding the place can be a little tricky. Especially because it is not on the main road and the sign for it is in Korean.
Basically though if you go on the same road as the flapjack pantry (a point of reference for too many of us). Walk away from the main commercial area of old downtown until you come to a store named "De Roches". Opposite there is a alleyway, walk down this and you will see the roller skating rink, it is on the third floor of the building.
Ulsan's ice skating rink provides great facilities so anyone no matter their ability can enjoy themselves.
For a group of sport loving friends this is a must. Live out your dreams of playing the big league with a roaring crowd behind you at the Baseball experience zone.
